Many Canadians are wondering how their Thanksgiving dinner will look different this year due to rising food prices.

Prices for some Thanksgiving staples are up more than 20 percent compared to this time last year. Statistics Canada reported last week that inflation rose 10.8 per cent for all retail food.

Last week, CTV News sent two reporters with identical 12-item grocery lists to see who could find the best deals. It was tight.

This week, Jeremie Charron and Kimberley Johnson will both be shopping for Thanksgiving dinner.

Jeremie will shop in Ottawa and Kimberley will shop in Kingston.

They will not be allowed to use cars, reflecting the reality of many Canadians who rely on public transportation, cycling, walking or other modes of transportation to get groceries.

The items will be donated to local food banks.

Check back later Wednesday to find out which of these two reporters is able to end up with a cheaper grocery bill.

  •  Block of cheese (400 grams)
  •  Turkey (at least 10 pounds)
  •  Potatoes (five pound bag)
  •  Cranberries (one can)
  •  Frozen vegetables (one bag)
  •  A box of stuffing
  •  Dinner rolls (six)
  •  A can of sauce
  •  Prepackaged salad
  •  turnip (1)
  •  Butter
  •  Pumpkin Pie
