Following what police described as a "family drama" in Laval's southwest end on Monday night, two children are dead and one man is under arrest. An 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were discovered inside a residence on Lauzon Street in Laval's Ste-Dorothée neighborhood, on the island north of Montreal, after Laval police received a 911 call around 6 p.m.
The two kids were taken to the hospital in severe condition, which later determined that they had passed away.
Laval Mayor Stéphane Boyer expressed his sympathy to the family in a statement on Twitter hours after the horrifying discovery, writing that "every one of Laval is in sadness."
In order to bring "this unsaid pain" to light, Laval police officers have been called into action, he continued.
A 46-year-old male was also hospitalized and is currently being held by police while recovering from surgery. The man's link to the two kids was kept a secret by the police.
He is slated to appear in court later that day after meeting with investigators on Tuesday. The accusations against them will not be made public until they are.
During a press briefing at the scene on Monday night, Const. Erika Landry, a representative for the Laval police, expressed her department's most profound condolences to the bereaved families.
According to Noovo Info, the mother of the children was rushed to the hospital to receive shock treatment.
A Lauzon Block resident told CTV News that Monday evening, there was a significant police presence on his street. Before the ambulance left the site, he added, he noticed paramedics attempting to revive a patient inside.
The man remarked, "The police reaction was quite quick."
Dominique Anglade, the leader of the Quebec Liberal Party, expressed sympathy to the victims' families on Monday, stating on Twitter that she was "wishing all the strength in the world to the victims' family and friends."
